Home Schooling the Faith

SUNDAY, October 25, 2015 30th SUNDAY OF ORDINARY TIME

Sun. Oct. 25, 2015: Jer. 1:7-9; Heb. 5:1-6; Mk. 10: 46-52

Jeremiah now promises God’s people God will bring them home. Is God “Home” to me? Is God my treasure? God called each of us to our place in His kingdom. Am I satisfied with my role with God? The blind man asked Jesus for his sight. His faith – Jesus said – saved him. Does my Eternity with God save me from my blindness as to what life is all about?

Mon. Oct. 26, 2015: Rom. 8:12-17; Mk. 13:10-17

Paul reminds us that God’s spirit calls us to discipline the way of the world  in me so as to live by the spirit of God, which looks to eternity as goal of my life journey. What is it that brings me joy? There my heart will be. Jesus is criticized for healing a woman on the Sabbath. Jesus reminds us: Doing for others is doing for God. Do I know it? Do I live it?

Tues. Oct. 27, 2015: Rom 8:18-25; Lk. 13:18-21

Paul reminds us that the sufferings of the present time are worth the eternity with God we strive after. Do I realize that? Do I live it? In the Gospel, Jesus reminds us that like the growth of the mustard seed, God’s kingdom must grow in importance to us. And it also must impact the whole of our lives. Are these things true of my journey to God?

Wed. Oct. 28, 2015: St. Simon & Jude: Eph. 2:19-22; Lk. 6:12-16

As part of the Body of Christ, I am now part of God’s household. I belong elsewhere – I’m on a trip. How does my life show I’m part of a journey thru life to eternity? The apostles Simon and Jude were called personally by name to follow Christ. Do I realize that from before the world was made, I’ve been called personally by name. God is my treasure. How?

Thurs. Oct. 29, 2015: Rom 8:31-39; Lk. 13:31-35

God emptied Himself totally of all entitlement as God our of love for me. Do I realize how special I am to Him” Does it show in my life? Many in Jesus’ day, did not understand what he was about. They were looking to kill him. Do I understand what God has done for me?  What input will I allow God in the running of my inmost life? Do I get it?

Fri. Oct. 30, 2015: Rom. 9:`1-5; Lk.  14:1-6

Paul here laments the fact that not all share his own vision of life with Christ. However, it is the personal responsibility of each individual. Do I know this and take charge of my life for ad live with it? In the healing of the sick person, Jesus reminds both bystanders and us that good done for others is good done for God and always OK on a Sunday.

Sat, Oct. 31, 2015: Rom 11:1-29; Lk. 14: 1-, 7-11

Paul reminds us that God loves all people and all things. All we have to do is welcome Him and He will dwell with us. And In the gospel, Jesus reminds us that humility is to be the characteristic that is ever to be part of witness to Christ. Jesus gave up all the privileges of being God in becoming one of us and if we are to follow Him. How well do I handle this?
