It is with sadness that we share news of
the passing of Catherine (Cathie) Ann Gurnick,
Father Gurnick’s beloved mother,
on Tuesday, October 13, 2020.

Greetings,

I begin with a deep sense of gratitude to each and all of you for the prayers and consoling words.

My mom, Cathie, peacefully was called home Tuesday morning. Ironically I received the call from the hospital that she had passed as I was driving to a local healthcare facility in Chardon about admissions. We were told Mom was never returning to her own home and would need permanent care.

My mom had a beautiful devotion to Our Lady of Fatima so it is no surprise that she would be called home on October 13th. I have a feeling that the Lord and Our Blessed Mother co-conspired to bring her home.

Due to COVID-19 and because some siblings’ families are coming from at-risk backgrounds—and from high-risk regions—we’ve decided to have private services for Mom at this time. The Mass of Christian Burial and Internment will take place soon with family and some close friends of Mom.

Certain that many of you would be there to support me, I thank you simply for your prayers for Mom and the family at this time.

In my 2.5 years at St. Patrick’s, my mom always enjoyed staying for a few days and encountering the warmth and kindness of all of you. Even when I was assigned to St. Malachi, she was excited to go to Mass with me and enjoyed her visit, commenting on how friendly everyone was to her. Thank you for making her always welcome!

Again, my sincere gratitude to all of you.

Blessings,
