In 1989, Ecumenical Patriarch Demitrios I proclaimed September 1 as a day of prayer for creation. The World Council of Churches extended the celebration from September 1 to October 4. Pope Francis welcomed the season officially in 2015.
The theme in 2020 is “Jubilee for the Earth” as the first earth day was in 1970. We need to reconcile ourselves from our over-consumption and unjust use of earth’s resources through repentance and action. During the five Sundays of this season watch this Updates space for reflections and suggestions on ways to celebrate.
