Lenten Reflections 2023 Week 2

March 5, 2023

My Help Comes from the Lord, who made Heaven and Earth

READINGS:
Gn 12:1-4a, Ps 33:4-5, 18-19, 20, 22, 2 Tm 1:8b-10, Mt 17:1-9

Reflection:

Today’s readings are all about personal encounters with God.  These personal encounters happen in a specific time and place on Earth.  God uses what God has created to speak to us in all that we see around us: the stars, the dust, a new land as in the first reading (Gn 12:1-4);  on a  mountaintop and through a cloud  as in the Gospel (Mt. 17:1-9).   Yes, we are not saved by our works but by the graces of God, as seen in all the readings today.  Where do you encounter God’s awesomeness and wonder and graces?  Where and how does God speak to you?  Chances are it is through some form of nature and the love we receive and give to each other.

Prayer:

Lord, grant us the wisdom to care for the earth, our common home.  Help us to account now for the good of future generations and all your creatures.  Make us instruments of a new creation founded on Your covenant of love.

Action:

Go to your favorite place in nature.  Listen to what God has to say to you. Then respond!
