Give Us Living Water
READINGS:
Ex 17:3-7, Ps 95:1-2, 6-7, 8-9, Rom 5:1-2, 5-8, Jn 4:5-42
Reflection:
Jesus’ dialogue with a Samaritan woman reveals His respect for her as she is involved in a theological debate with Him. The well is a place where many meetings have taken place in the Hebrew Scriptures. Jesus talks of giving us living water. The people at that time would not be able to imagine the dead water that exists in some places today. And many wells are dry today. How much we need Jesus to give us living water today—figuratively and literally. How are we being asked to help Jesus do this?
Prayer:
Oh God, we thirst for you. We pray that we, who have available water, will become more generous so that all may have clean water.
Action:
Perhaps we can use less water by being careful not to waste it. Consider donating to nonprofits promoting access to safe and healthy water, such as Alliance for the Great Lakes https://greatlakes.org/, Filter of Hope https://filterofhope.org/, Safe Water Network https://safewaternetwork.org/.
