Do you tend to spiritually underpack or overpack?

  1. My first reaction to the image of packing for time away from home is packing my hospital bag. My son has spent so much time in the Cleveland Clinic that I know exactly what I need: the Ohio State canvas tote filled with iPad, charger, rosary, journal, pens, water bottle, Lara bars, and a deck of cards, maybe the book I’m reading. Inevitably, the water bottle and rosary get the most use. My goal has been to emulate my father- he brings nothing. He waits, chin on chest, apparently snoozing. Because our last trip was to the emergency department, there was no time to pack- though I did miss the water bottle- to be a camel! Knowing my son was in the best place possible, I relaxed, chin on chest, snoozing, and prayed for healing, blessing the many hands that relieved his symptoms. My epiphany has taken years to realize: God will take up as much room as I need, He will take up all the room I give Him.
